Tuscany Restaurant - Bowen Island, BC

Tuscany Restaurant is an European style trattoria located in Snug Cove, Bowen Island, just a 2 minute walk from the ferry. They serve wood oven pizza & Mediterranean cuisine. We stopped by here before starting our hike to have lunch.

The restaurant has a very nice and large garden patio area where visitors can choose to sit in the sun or the shade.

There's even a fountain!

They have a lot of deliciously sounding options of pizza, which comes in two difference sizes 8" (individual) for $13 and 14" (2-3 people) for $21. There's also a gluten free option available. They also serve pasta but all of us were feeling like pizza so we ordered 3 types. The table next us was enjoying a Toscana salad and it looked really good so we decided to share one as well.

After ordering, I went into the restaurant to look around. The restaurant building is a rustic heritage style house. It's a little dark inside.

Since it was such a nice day, everyone was eating outdoors and the tables indoors were empty.

There is a kitchen upstairs and the wood oven in the basement. I think they also sell t-shirts that say "iPie" and "Slow down, this ain't the Mainland" or something similar. I saw a bunch hanging near the main entrance. Most of the waiters were wearing them. Upon reading the back of the t-shirt, I discovered that Tuscany Restaurant is apparently famous for their pear & brie pizza. I wish I knew this before I ordered. It's called the Tuscany on the menu. Fresh sliced pear, brie cheese with caramelized onions. Mmm. Just thinking about it makes me want to go back!

The pizza girls were in the basement happily making our lunches.

Toscana Salad ($15) - organic greens, artichokes, fresh pear, sun dried tomatoes, parmigiano
The Toscana salad arrived first. It was a simple salad and it tasted great! I especially liked the artichokes. The salad dressing that came with it was slightly sour and wasn't heavy. It also doubled as a dipping sauce for our Bella Venizia pizza, which had a lot of greens on it.

Toscana Salad ($15)

Dolce Inferno (SM $13)- Capicollo, caramilized onions, mozzarella, sweet & spicy peppers, tomato sauce
Two of my friends decided to get individual meaty pizzas. Dolce Inferno which had a little spice to it and Quatro Stagioni. These are pretty big for individual pizzas!

Quatro Stagioni (SM $13) - Proscuitto, mushrooms, artichokes, mozzarella, tomato sauce

Bella Venizia (LG $21) - Portobello mushroom, roasted garlic, goat's cheese, cassata, herbs, fresh arugula
I shared a large Bella Venizia with M. Sorry about the photo. It was half in the sun and half in the shade.

Bella Venizia
It had a lot of arugula on it! I think there wasn't nearly enough Portobello mushrooms. It was mostly only cheese and arugula that I could taste. It was still delicious though! The crust was thin, crisp and chewy and it wasn't too oily. Pretty light for a pizza, which was good otherwise we would have died on our hike. Mmm, so yummy. I want to go back!

Overall, it was a great meal. Portions are big but I could have used more toppings on the Bella Venizia. Good thing we decided to go for lunch instead of dinner because when we came back from our hike it was PACKED. Out of all the restaurants in the area, only this one was hopping. See the full Tuscany Restaurant menu on their website.
